Peter Reid felt that perseverance was key to Thailand's 2-1 win as they advanced to the AFF Suzuki Cup final.

The Thais entered the second leg of the semi-final tie at Rajamangala Stadium with a narrow edge after winning 1-0 in Jakarta on Tuesday but their advantage was cancelled out by Chonlatit Jantakam's early own goal.

The home side were kept at bay for much of the game until Teerathep Winothai put them back on top with a 73rd minute strike.

Substitute Ronnachai Rangsiyo then sealed the tie two minutes from time, making it 3-1 on aggregate and sending the three-time champions through to meet either Vietnam or defending champions Singapore in the final.

Reid felt that credit was due to the Indonesians for the resilience that they displayed after taking the lead, although the Englishman never doubted the ability of his team to get back into the game.

"Credit to Indonesia for changing the system and that made all the difference on the night," said Reid.

"But I told the players that they have to be patient as considering the defensive work rate which Indonesia was doing, there was no way they could keep it up in the second half.

"Football is 90 minutes long. You don't win in 45 minutes," he added.

After a disappointing display in the first leg, Indonesia gave a much better account of themselves particularly in the opening half.

However coach Benny Dollo felt that his team were simply beaten by a better side.

"Thailand have quality in every department, so it was difficult for us to play an open game," said Dollo.

"We played a close game and waited for the quick counter-attacks. Unfortunately striker Bambang Pamungkas is a little injured and he could not play for the full 90 minutes."
