Jose Mourinho has started the mind games after accusing UEFA of double standards in the treatment of Wayne Rooney.

According to the Sun, the Inter Milan coach has hinted that United have been given preferential treatment to Rooney.

UEFA decided not to punish Rooney for his stamp on Aalborg’s Kasper Risgard in the Champions League group stage game in December.

Mourinho said: “When I was with Chelsea something really extraordinary happened when through TV evidence Essien was suspended for three games and didn’t play our two games against Barcelona.

“The same thing didn’t happen last week with Rooney, so he will be available to play against us in the knockout stage. But I accept all this which is a consequence of the rules.”

Friday’s Champions League draw paired Mourinho’s Italian giants with Man United in the last 16.

Man United go to the San Siro on February 24 with the return leg on March 11.

During his Chelsea reign, Michael Essien was banned from the 2005 tie against Barcelona after he had kicked out at Liverpool’s Didi Hamann
